BLACK smoke enveloped the Lincoln Memorial after a vehicle fire broke out about five miles from the monument.
Plumes from the crash hang over the National Mall, but the fire has been extinguished, according to DC Fire and EMS.

The crash on the southbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway involved a “pickup truck and trailer” per Arlington Fire and EMS, reported local Fox affiliate WTTG.
It brought “dark black and light white smoke,” according to WTTG, near the Lincoln Memorial.
No immediate injuries have been reported.
The fire has caused commuter delays.
The George Washington Parkway runs along the Potomac River, located next to the Lincoln Memorial.
The U.S. Sun reached out to the Arlington Fire Department in a request for comment.
