Steve Nikoui is a Gold Star father from Southern California.

His son, Kareem Nikoui, was a United States Marine who was killed in Afghanistan in 2021.

Steve Nikoui made national headlines in 2024 for shouting and heckling President Joe Biden amid the State of the Union address.

What did he say during Biden’s State of the Union address?

During the State of the Union address, on March 7, 2024, Steve Nikou was escorted out of the US Capitol after he shouted at the president.

He shouted, “Abbey Gate!” referring to the United States military base in Afghanistan.

Nikoui continued to yell at the president, “Second Battalion, First Marines!”

He was then taken into custody by Capitol police on charges of crowding, obstructing, or incommoding,

CBS reports that the United States Capitol Police released a statement about the arrest.

It reads, “Our officers warned him to stop and when he did not, the man was removed from the House Galleries and was arrested for DC Code § 22–1307 – Crowding, Obstructing, or Incommoding.”

“Disrupting the Congress and demonstrating in the Congressional Buildings is illegal.”

The president did not refer to the Afghanistan withdrawal at any point during his 68-minute speech.

Steve Nikoui’s son was one of the 13 service members killed near the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui was killed by a suicide bomber at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

The terrorist attack occurred during the controversial US military withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

He was 20 years old.
