But on Saturday, February 3, 2024, she reached out to Fox 5 DC News to provide a heartbreaking update about Mike Gill, who was shot on the night of Monday, January 29, 2024, in Washington, DC.
Who was Mike Gill and what happened to him?
Mike Gill served as the senior vice president for capital markets at the Housing Policy Council (HPC).
According to his LinkedInprofile, he held the role since November 2021 and previously worked as the senior vice president for Common Securitization Solutions from January 2020 to November 2021.
He also previously served as the chief of staff to former US Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Christopher Giancarlo from October 2016 to November 2019.
From July 2004 to October 2016, Mike worked as a counsel for Crowell & Moring LLP, per his LinkedIn.
He also served as the senior vice president for AFFI from August 2000 to July 2004 and as the executive director for Ripon from August 1997 to August 2000.
From June 1993 to August 1997, he served as the press secretary and legislative aide under US Representative Paul Gillmor in the 5th District of Ohio.
Mike received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Dayton and his master’s degree in government from Johns Hopkins University.
He also earned his J.D. from The Catholic University of America.
According to HPC’s website, Mike has pro bono experience which includes “representing undocumented juveniles, through the Kids in Need program, before state and federal courts as well as volunteering for the Archdiocesan Legal Network.”
He was a licensed practitioner of the Washington, D.C., and Maryland Bars, per the website.
According to the New York Post, he was also a former Donald Trump administration official and previously served as the Republican representative on the DC Board of Elections.
Fox 5 DC first reported that Mike was in critical condition in the hospital after he was shot on the night of Monday, January 29, 2024, in Washington, DC.
His family told Fox 5’s Shomari Stone that the incident occurred in the 900 block of K Street NW at around 5:45 pm.
According to the outlet, the suspect allegedly entered Mike’s car, shot him, and ran away.
Metropolitan Police Department officials believe that the suspect then stole a Chrysler 200 and shot and killed the car owner on the 1000 block of 3rd Street NE, per Fox 5 DC.
On the morning of Tuesday, January 30, two New Carrollton police officers shot and killed the suspect, according to the outlet.
Mike’s family sent a statement to Stone.
“Mike is an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague. He has a wonderful sense of humor, no matter the situation,” the statement began.
“He makes friends with everyone – and is always looking for opportunities to bring people together and make them feel included and loved.
“His warmth and kindness have touched the lives of many, evident in the outpouring of love and support his family has have [sic] received during this difficult time. Mike’s remarkable ability to connect with others transcends boundaries,” it continued.
“His genuine interest in people and his innate ability to make everyone feel valued and included have been instrumental in fostering a sense of community wherever he goes.
“Whether it’s through his infectious laughter, his genuine concern for others, or his innate ability to find common ground, Mike is a catalyst for unity and friendship.
“The most important thing about Mike that all of his friends know is how much he loves his family and how proud he is of his three children. You can’t know Mike without hearing proud stories of each one of his kids, and hearing about his love and respect for his wife, Kristina.”
The Washington Post reported that according to police and a witness, Mike was targeted “while waiting to pick up his wife at her workplace.”
On Saturday, February 3, 2024, multiple outlets reported that Mike Gill had tragically passed away from injuries he sustained during the carjacking.
Who is Mike Gill’s widow, Kristina?
Mike was married to a woman named Kristina Gill.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she has worked as a partner at Duane Morris LLP since January 2023 and was a special counsel from August 2016 to January 2023.
Kristina previously served as the director of state and federal government regulations at EDMC from August 2010 to August 2016.
She worked as a speechwriter and legislative counsel for US Congressman John Kline from August 2007 to August 2008.
From October 1998 to September 2003, she worked as a research attorney and contract attorney in the research division of the Federal Judicial Center.

From February to July 1994, she was a research assistant and intern for the State of Maryland’s Department of Human Resources.
Kristina also served as a legislative assistant for US Congressman Jim Ramstad from March 1992 to February 1994.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Maryland, and her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.
Just days after Mike was shot during a deadly carjacking rampage, Kristina released a written statement to Fox 5 DC’s Shomari Stone confirming that her late husband had passed away.
“It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill. His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled,” she wrote.
“In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and assistance.”
“Mike was not only a devoted husband and father but also a cherished son, brother, and friend.
“Over the course of his remarkable life, Mike brought people together and made them feel included, supported, and loved.
“His heart was evident in everything he did, as demonstrated by his mentorship and deep friendships with those who worked with him professionally,” she added.
Do Mike Gill and Kristina have any children?
Mike and Kristina have three children together.
While there is little public information about their kids, their names are Sean, Brian, and Annika.
Their son Sean shared a family photo on Facebook on January 16, 2024.
