“I was going to Brooklyn to meet a friend’s baby,” she said on Monday.

“And I look at my phone, within 10 seconds after being in the car, and Biden has tweeted out that he is dropping out of the race.

“I was like, ‘I need you to turn around!’”

Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House last month, ending his reelection bid.

This followed a disastrous debate with Trump which raised doubts about the president’s fitness for office.

He’s looking at me, he’s looking at my phone, like, ‘Is that whose voice I think that is?’

Collins said her first call after hearing about Biden dropping out, was to directly call former president Trump, to the Uber driver’s great surprise.

“The Uber driver was like, ‘What?’ And I was like, ‘I just — can you go back where we were just? Can you just go back there?'” she added.

“Because I needed a blazer, I needed my CNN badge.

“And he was like, ‘OK, it’s a bunch of–’ I was like, ‘I don’t care, just, can we just hurry?'”

Collins said she didn’t have her headphones on her, but she wanted to know Trump’s immediate reaction.

“So I call Donald Trump,” she continued. “I put it on speaker in the backseat. And I’m writing down his quotes.”

Collins recalled Trump’s voice “booming through” the vehicle.

“[Trump] knows why I’m calling and what quotes I wanted,” she recalled.

“The Uber driver is turning around – he’s so confused.

“He’s looking at me, he’s looking at my phone, he’s like, ‘Is that whose voice I think that is?’

“And I just sprinted out of the Uber, and eight hours later when we got off air, I checked the app to make sure I tipped him.”

The 10 days that changed America

Timeline of Joe Biden's failed re-election bid

President Joe Biden endured weeks of calls to step aside before he announced on July 21 that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. Here are key developments leading up to his decision:

June 27: Biden’s disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump sparks calls for him to step aside. His voice is raspy and he trails off several times after having already endured questions about his age and mental capacity following a series of blunders at public events.

July 2: Polls after the debate indicate that Trump is pulling ahead. Rep. Lloyd Doggett is the first Democratic congressman to publicly urge Biden to drop his bid for re-election and big Democratic donors issue the same call a day later.

July 5: Biden does a live TV interview with George Stephanopoulos where he tries to quell fears about his age and debate performance. He calls it a “bad night” and says he was under the weather and “exhausted.”

July 10: Senator Peter Welch becomes the first senator to call for Biden to drop out. George Clooney, a major Hollywood fundraiser for Democrats, urged the president to quit the race.

July 11: Biden refers to Ukrainian President Zelensky as President Putin at a NATO event.

July 13: Trump is shot at a campaign rally by a wannabe assassin. His popularity and favorability ratings soar after he was seen bloodied on stage but walked off with a fist in the air, telling the crowd to “fight!”

July 14: Biden and Kamala Harris spoke multiple times a week ahead of his big announcement, according to a source.

July 17: Rep Adam Schiff and a series of other Democrats call for Biden to step aside and even former President Barack Obama tells allies that Biden’s path to victory has “greatly diminished.” Biden tests positive for Covid-19 hours later, after saying he would consider ending his bid if he were diagnosed with “some medical issue.”

July 19: Biden insists he will continue campaigning in his first statement since Obama’s U-turn – despite reports that he would decide to drop out by the weekend.

July 21: Just before 2 pm, Biden announces he is stepping aside in the 2024 election and endorses VP Kamala Harris.

Biden quit after escalating pressure from his Democratic pals to step aside following the disastrous June 27 TV debate.

His announcement stunned the world, as he had appeared to be snubbing calls from fellow party members and Democratic-supporting celebs, including George Clooney, to quit.

Since then, Biden has been pictured enjoying some downtime, taking a trip to the beach over the weekend.

But, some analysts have suggested he should remain on the campaign trail, stumping for presidential hopeful Kamala Harris.

However, others think he may be better off focusing on governing, as reported by Politico.

TRUMP BUSY CAMPAIGNING

Meanwhile, Trump has many political events lined-up, and will spend tomorrow talking about the economy in Asheville, North Carolina.

The MAGA leader had a chaotic interview with Elon Musk yesterday on X, when he said the image of the Vice President resembled his wife, former First Lady Melania.

It came after Trump slammed Biden as a “broken down pile of c**p” in a recently surfaced video and dubbed Harris “pathetic”.

The former US president ranted from his seat on a golf buggy in the clip.

In the footage shared on Trump’s own Truth Social network, he claimed Kamala would be taking over from Biden despite repeated comments from his camp insisting he wouldn’t quit.
